Tuesday, June 10 RENEE

We had a North Shore day planned, but Julia is still under the weather with a little bug, so we're going to wait a day (or two). [This picture is from yesterday.]

The Minecraft Boys woke up early, did their little jobs, got on swimsuits and sunscreen and were ready by 8am to go to the beach!  And then it rained.  It does that a lot here. The workers building some houses behind us worked through the rain, so that provided some entertainment.

Closer to nine we were able to walk to the beach (just a few blocks).  Along the way we stopped to see "our kitties."  There are stray cats, chickens, and roosters EVERYWHERE here. The favorite kitten looks a lot like our late George Lucas.

Upon arriving at the beach, the boys worked hard on keeping the waves from destroying their fortress (really an impossible task).  Ethan dug a deep hole that landed him in a crab's home.  This was quite amusing as he screamed and then the crab ran into the ocean.  Both were petrified of having touched the other.

We saw a couple of bluebottle jelly fish, which then freaked Jacob out enough for him to not want to go anywhere near the shore line.  He has been the one child we literally have to drag out of the ocean when it's time to go, so this was unexpected.  Greg did some good explaining about how these little jellyfish stings are comparable to a bee sting, bribed him with ice cream, and got him back in the water.

We were poured on a few times while at the beach.  But so it goes.

The middle of the day is just way too hot to be outside.  We tried the local elementary school playground, but Ty, dying of thirst, exclaimed, "This is above my heat radar."

Some napped, some read, some enjoyed screen time, some worked on Father's day cards...

For our afternoon adventure we had shaved ice at an old sugar mill nearby.  Yum.  Ethan calls it "cold ice."  Which is funny, because what other temperature could ice be?  Shaved ice with ice cream is such a delightful treat.  Even Julia, who was feverish, enjoyed the soothingness.

Greg made us fajitas for dinner and then we did another trip to the beach.
We have our first sunburn since arriving, as brothers with little hands "helped" each other with sunscreen.  Guess I'm back to my full-time sunscreen nazi job.  May need to force rash guards tomorrow.

Kind of a low key day, but wonderful nonetheless.

I finally got my ID and Greg and I had a date to the gym tonight.  It felt so good to workout.  With how hot and muggy it is, outside workouts just aren't cutting it.  Loved the a/c too!  May go to the gym just for that! Aloha!

Oh dear, sure hope Julia feels better real soon. Love all the photos about the many activities you're all involved in! That stray kitten sure does look a lot like George Lucas. Shaved ice sounds so refreshing in the heat :) Good to hear you both made it to the gym.
