Yikes.
My little girl is growing up.
She is SUCH A GREAT KID. I don't know how many people tell me that, and I always agree.
A few weeks ago, I had a call from a friend whose son is in Cub Scouts with my boys. Miss J and I are almost always in attendance at Cub Scout functions, and we've become close with several of the other cub scout parents. In fact, we went to this specific friend's wedding last summer!!! At any rate, she called to say just how amazing she thinks my daughter is. And she went on and on and on. And she went on and on and on. (Tell me you have a song going through your head now!) I put my hands up in the air sometimes (hee hee), so it's nice to have other people remind you of your child's greatness. In the end, she said she remembers how hard it is to be an eleven year old, and so she wanted to throw Miss J a party to celebrate HER! No birthday, no holiday, just a fun pampering party for her and a few close friends. This gal is all about making amazing jewelry and homemade, organic scrubs and lip balms, and actually does little girls' parties for fee. And here she was doing this whole shebang for one little girl who she thinks is amazing, just because! Miss J got all creative and made the cutest little invites for her friends (which I forgot to take pictures of) and then this sweet friend came an hour early to help set up and prep for the party.
It was a great time. But more than anything, I think Miss J was moved by how amazing this friend must really think she is to do this for her. It's inspired her to do things for others whom she thinks is amazing, and it's boosted her self-confidence in how amazing she is. Perfect for an almost-middle-school girl.
Our friend was beyond gracious and so supportive, talking to and complimenting each of the girls at the party. She made them look, feel and acknowledge how beautiful they are - inside and out. Reminding us all of the true purpose of pampering.
The cute cupcakes Miss J made... they HAD to have cherries on top!
Still willing to hug me and be seen in public with me... I'm holding my breath.
Our great friend demonstrating the beading technique.
So many pretty beads to choose from.
I even got in on the fun.
Finished products... girl power!
Making our sugar scrubs. (Mr. Man and the older boys were, ironically, at a Cub Scouting service project... but Little J was a sweet little helper and didn't get in the way at all - phew!)
The girl talk these four had brought me back... so fun, and funny!
Manicures and hair tinsel were next.
And then the party went overtime while the girls had fun "just dancing" and playing rockband.
Little J was quite proud of his sugar scrub. And yes, I MADE my kids eat the baby food in the jars we used!
